62 degrees and sunny today! I think winter only lasted about a week this year here in the Willamette Valley. I vaguely remember being really cold for about that length of time. It is a welcome change. Usually I get really sick of the drizzly rain this time of year, but today we played in the sun!
What else have we been up to?
A new hairdo and bathroom cabinet! Just in the last couple weeks Abby has started to leave things in her hair for more than a few minutes. I am having fun! I also purchased a cabinet for our bathroom (since we have no cupboards, no medicine cabinet, no counters). I really like it and Abby has spent countless hours "organizing" it for me.
Snuggles with our little one:
A failed potty training tea party. A few weeks ago I attempted to potty train Abby. I read up on the weekend training and was shocked when it only took Abby about 2 hours to catch on. So, why the failure? I think the toilette just isn't her thing. After leaving her diaper free, she grabbed her crotch, said "potty!" and went in the toilette perfectly. But, that was it. The rest of the day she would tell me "potty!" as she was going but wanted no further part of the big white throne. I have decided to wait a month and try again. Any helpful hints?Learning her ACB's: Yes, that is how we say it around here. We bought Abby a magnetic alphabet set for Christmas. She is a little sponge when it comes to learning and could tell you most of her letters within a few days. I am not one of those obsessed parents that tries to teach her child to read by 18 months - she just picks up things quick! She can recognize her written name, as well as Mommy and Daddy. The other day I was working in the kitchen and gave Abby some paper to draw on. Next thing I knew she was laying in front of the fridge. She would say a letter and then very seriously scribble on the paper. Abby has also learned her colors, shapes, and can count to 5. She likes counting to ten as well, but it goes like this, "fwee, fo, sis, ten!"
Weekend Getaway! Eugene's mom flew up last week so we could have our first weekend getaway since Abby was born! Thanks, Mom Bakos! We took off to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. I cried when we left, but did OK most of the weekend. It was so nice to have some just us time - no constraints, no hurrying back for nap time, meal time, bed time, etc. No going to bed early knowing I would be woken up soon after. The wierdest part for me was packing - it only took me about 10 minutes and we fit in one bag! We enjoyed some hot meals at our own pace, did some shopping and mostly just relaxed and enjoyed each other. The ironic part - their was a baby in the room next to ours. It was pretty annoying since we had waited so long to get away from nighttime and early morning crying, but at least we could stay in bed!Can you guess where we stayed? The clue is in the left of the picture.
This is the view from our amazing room. We stayed at the Elizabeth Street Inn and had one of these rooms:

Oh potty training! I tried with Kate around that same time and she didn't get it. Now that she's 3, we're good to go. We're still working on recognizing the feeling, but we don't have any accidents. I just have to stay on top of her to go potty. It's a breeze and much less of a headache.
When they say you'll know when your child is ready, you will. The best advice is let Abby guide you on this stuff. It's so much easier.
Love the ponytail! She is adorable!
