Busy Days

We have had a few busy days. Friday we took a day trip to Foster Lake where our Sunday School class was having a campout. I decided that nursing in 40 degree weather in the middle of the night was not my thing, so we just went for the day. Then on Saturday we attended the Finch's wedding. It was beautiful and fun! Abby got all dressed up in a cute little dress that Aunt Tara bought for her. Then on Sunday we went down to Springfield for my family's annual Christmas in July. It's a fun tradition that my Grandparents started. Since Christmas is always such a busy time of year and hard to make schedules match, they started having a bar-b-q in July with a white elephant gift exchange. This year I ended up with tissue, furniture polish and urinal cleaner! Abby was exhausted by then and spent most of the day sleeping in Aunt Becky's arms. Today we are packing for CA. We will leave either tonight or tomorrow depending on Eugene's work. We are about to find out how long it takes to travel 500 miles with an infant :)

Diapers

This week we are transitioning to cloth diapers - the plain old fashioned kind. I read that one baby will go through one ton of disposable diapers, which never decompose. So in an effort to be kind to both the earth and our checkbook, we are using cloth. I am quickly developing an appreciation for moms before the days of disposables. Are these things for real? One size for birth through two years? Abby swims in them! Diaper pins that are dull so they don't hurt baby - how do you get them through the cloth? Is it supposed to take me 30 minutes to figure out how to put one on? Needless to say, we have some learning to do :)

Happy 4th of July!

Tummy time!

After receiving the hospital bill, Eugene decided it was time for Abby to start earning her keep. Here she is ready for the RD meeting. However, before the meeting started, Daddy relented and let her take a nap instead. I'm sure she would have been great.

Napping

My question for the day is - how can a baby be put to sleep by fireworks and woken up by the phone ringing? I don't understand a baby's ways, but I know either one wakes me up. So, until Abby is consistently sleeping through the night, please only call our cell phones as any of us may be napping. Thanks a bunch! Christie

A new camping experience

We survived our first camping trip with a baby! It was definitely more work than I was expecting, but we had a good time with our friends. Tina took care of all the meals for us so I could focus on nursing and caring for Abby - what a good friend! Here are some pictures -

Going Camping

We are braving the great outdoors today. Our first family vacation will be at Beverly Beach with the Bartsch family. My question is how can a 21" person need a whole suitcase and diaper bag all to herself? Not to mention the playpen, blow-up bathtub, boppie and front pack. I am excited to have a break from loads of laundry, bleaching and boiling everything all day long (due to the thrush). Let's just see how us new, overprotective parents do living in a tent near the sand for 2 days! Here is a pic of Eugene playing with Abby last night.
