Relapse!

I had sugar today. And like a good addict I will blame it on something - cafeteria food. I normally do not complain about eating in the cafeteria. After all, I don't have to meal plan, grocery shop, cook or wash dishes. But, seriously, the squash was crunchy, the pork was like rubber, the scalloped potatoes were raw and the rice was watery. So, my solution: Dessert Bar! I had two cookies - one sugar and one white chocolate macadamia nut. Mmmmmm.

I am really impressed with this picture. I just took it in the dark. Our nifty camera that we purchased last year has a prolonged exposure feature so I can take pictures of Abby sleeping without waking her up!

The Youngest Student on Campus

Eugene took Abby to get her own campus ID card - thanks Brian Schmidt! She must be the youngest college student ever. Her courses include Basic Tummy Time, Teething 101 and Advanced Swinging Methods. She is leading her class in Nightime Sleeping, but unfortunately she is flunking Daytime Naps.

Shots and a Picnic

Wednesday was Abby's 4-month birthday. We celebrated with her check-up. What awful parents! She had to have 3 shots and her poor little legs hurt all that day and the next. But, she weighed in at a healthy 12 lbs. 11 oz and 24 inches long, right on track still. Yesterday, our dorm had a picnic with our sister dorm. Eugene bar-b-q'd 40 lbs of chicken!

We have such a happy baby - even when she hurts, she loves to laugh!

Anyone want to Fly with me?

I heard about the FlyLady through my friend Char's blog. It's a simple program to help you get your house clean and organized. It looks doable and pretty fun. I'm going to start on October 1st. Anyone want to join me? You can look it up at www.flylady.net.

Swinging Fun

Abby is getting better at reaching out and grabbing things. Today we tried putting an attachment on her swing for her to play with and she really liked it. She has also taken longer naps the past 2 days - I'm praying this is going to become normal!

A visit

This week we were pleasantly surprised by a visit from Eugene's Grandparents. Grandma Dorothy even cooked for us - what a treat!

I must really love this face

Some of you may not know that I have an addiction because I hide it well. It amazes me that even though I knew my lifestyle was affecting Abby, it still took time for me to completely give it up and the withdrawals have been agonizing. I can proudly say that I now have 34 days clean. It is hard to believe I have made it over a month without having a single dessert. You've got it - not one cookie, not one once of ice cream, not a single doughnut. My name is Christie and I am a sugar addict. Would anyone like to sponser me? I am thinking about starting an SA meeting. Seriously, though, I have gained a new appreciation for people that have overcome addictions. I think the only thing that gets me through is knowing it's not permanent. Last Sunday I made a dessert for the RA's and I told Eugene I felt like an alcoholic being asked to mix someone a drink - it was awful. Half-way through the recipee I had to take a break and leave the room. But I persevered and didn't even lick the spoon! I need a 30-day coin :) And to add to the torture, if I have too much greasy foods Abby spits up a lot and even vomited the other day. Supposedly yeast also feeds on dairy products so I have cut back on milk (some of you know I'm also a milk addict), and I need to avoid broccoli and beans and any other gaseous foods, caffeine, spices, and anything else that tastes good. I'm beginning to wonder what can I eat? Any other moms out there have any good nursing diet tips?

Dress Up

Abby's tummy was really acting up yesterday. She went through 5 outfits and I went through 3. The fun part about it is I got to put lots of cute clothes on her! I couldn't resist taking pictures of this one (check out how chubby those cheeks are getting!):

Work

Abby has been coming to work with me on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. She can be lots of fun to have around. She is now the youngest employee of CCPC. Lincoln is another young employee - he is about to turn one year old. Upon their first meeting, Abby burped at Lincoln. I told her to keep acting that way around boys and we should safely avoid the whole dating thing. It was really funny because he was wearing a little shirt that said, "Chicks dig me"

Most people at work take coffee breaks. Abby takes naps.

It has been a blessing to work for an agency that allows me to bring my daughter to work. However, today I fired her. Yesterday and today she has been kind of fussy - I think her little tummy is having trouble again. So, after 4 hours of me not being able to get anything done and Abby not being able to get the sleep she needed I decided to terminate the employee relationship and Daddy came and picked her up. Hopefully she will feel better by Friday!

Our latest happenings

A lot has happened since I blogged last. Eugene survived the 3 weeks of student planning and training and I got my husband back at the end of August :) All the students have returned and school is back in full swing - it's fun to have them back around and now Abby has lots of older brothers and lots of girls that want to babysit. Eugene is continuing to work on his math degree and has enrolled in Calculus.
On Wednesday, Eugene took me to see the Phantom of the Opera for my 30th birthday. For those of you that don't know, my birthday was the day before Abby's birth, so we didn't do much celebrating then! I really enjoyed the show and afterward we stayed at the Radison. Yes, that means we had to leave Abby overnight for the first time. It took everything in me not to call every few minutes. Apparently she had a blast and partied with Grandma and Grandpa Bass a little too hard because Thursday she fell asleep on our way back from the dining hall at 6:30pm and didn't wake up until 7:30 the next morning. Then she took a 2 1/2 hour nap, which never happens!
Eugene purchased an iPhone and has been having a lot of fun with all it's great features. All the single picture posts you have seen were taken and blogged directly from his iPhone.
Friday I got to hear Abby giggle a real giggle for the first time - it was so cute! Not that her cackle isn't cute, but this was so adorable. She is also doing better at reaching and grabbing things.
Today also brought a first, but one I could have done without. A student was cooking oatmeal in a non-microwavable bowl and set off the fire alarm. We are very lucky that this was the first non-fire drill alarm we have experienced in our 4 school years in Farrar. However, I was in the shower. Keep in mind we live in a dorm full of men. I escaped with Abby (blow-out diaper and all) in my bathrobe out the front door to avoid the guys going out the back and then realized I was in view of all the cars driving by. The girls in the cottage next door graciously allowed me to hide out there until I could re-enter the dorm. Oh, the joys of RD life!
Well, I think that's all for now. Here are some pictures of Abby's bath tonight.
